Introduction
North American Institute’s Automated Transmissions course is a comprehensive technical
training course covering basic through advanced concepts of automated manual transmission
systems as used on Mack and Volvo chassis. It is intended to familiarize the technician with the
design and function, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance procedures associated with these systems.
The Student Manual has been designed to present the material in a logical order for use
both during the course and as a subsequent reference after the course has been completed. This
course will make use of this Student Manual, other published service information, sample
components, integrated worksheets and hands-on lab activities with vehicles that are equipped with
automated manual transmissions (AMT). All of these materials and activities are designed to
increase technician confidence and competence with these systems.
