MACK TRUCKS, INC. V-MAC SERVICE TOOLS FOR WINDOWS 95/98
VERSION 2.4
TUESDAY JUNE 5, 2001
***********************************************************
INCLUDED IN THIS FILE:

A. KNOWN PROBLEMS AND / OR ERROR MESSAGES
B. TECHNICAL SUPPORT CONTACT INFORMATION

***********************************************************

A. KNOWN PROBLEMS AND / OR ERROR MESSAGES:

ALL APPLICATIONS (SD, CDP, InfoMax, DP):

1. Communication Errors.

We have found that many Toshiba laptops will have
problems communicating with the Windows power management
system enabled. If necessary, disable it by selecting
the Control Panel and double clicking on the Power Icon.
Beneath the power tab, a check box will allow you to
disable power management.

SERVICE DIAGNOSTICS:

1. When Launching the V-MAC Service Diagnostics or Customer Data
Programming, a dialog box appears indicating that the program
is already running.

This may be caused by the improper termination of a
previous instance of the program. A quick way to
check for this problem is to use <Ctl+Alt+Del> to
display the Close Program dialog box. Look for
either Service Diagnostics (Not Responding) or
Customer Data Programming (Not Responding). If
you see this condition, you may attempt to solve
the problem by selecting 'End Task' repeatedly
until the program terminates. If all else fails,
you will have to reboot the machine.

2. Loss of serial communications causes the program to stop
responding.

This occurs when the vehicle is disconnected from the
computer while the software is still running. You must
always exit the software before disconnecting. If you
have disconnected, re-connecting the vehicle will allow
you to terminate the software.

3. Trip Reset in Service Diagnostics is not the same as in
InfoMax.

The Service Diagnostics use of the Vehicle Trip is
not the same as for the InfoMax Fleet Data Management
System. The vehicle trip in Service Diagnostics can be
employed by leasing companies to provide a method of
keeping a complete log "while leased," while at the
same time letting the customer have trip data using
InfoMax.

4. Help Text.

Not all functions have help text available. Refer to
the V-MAC Support Software User's Guide (8-333).

5. Service Diagnostics cannot be launched without closing Dealer
Programming.

After programming with Dealer Programming, Service
Diagnostics cannot be launched without closing Dealer
Programming, whereas Customer Data Programming can.
Close Dealer Programming to run Service Diagnostics.

6. Vehicle Data Log Display Save to File.

When saving the Vehicle Data Log Display to a file, the
.trp extension is not appended to the saved file if the
default file name is overwritten. The file is saved
without an extension. Be sure to include the .trp
extension if you change the default file name.

7. Maintenance Data Log Display Save to File.

When saving the Maintenance Data Log Display to a file,
the .mtn extension is not appended to the saved file if
the default file name is overwritten. The file is saved
without an extension. Be sure to include the .mtn
extension if you change the default file name.

8. Engine Compression Test Save Results to File.

When saving the Engine Compression Test results to a
file, the .txt extension is not appended to the saved
file if the default file name is overwritten. The file
is saved without an extension. Be sure to include the
.txt extension if you change the default file name.

9. Special Diagnostics for VMAC III Step 6 and lower.

The Engine Run Up, Engine Compression, and Engine Brake
test buttons may sometimes appear enabled for Step 6 and
lower. These tests are only available for Step 7 and
above. The tests will not run on Step 6 and lower
systems even though the button may appear to be enabled.

10. When Saving to File.

Saving information on some laptop computers with
removable floppy disk drives will not invoke the "Save
to File" dialog box and will hang the program, requiring
a restart of the computer. Connecting a floppy drive to
the computer before selecting "Save" will correct this
problem.

11. Switch Status Display.

The switch status display will momentarily display the
opposite switch status. This occurs periodically and
effects displayed status of all the switches on the
screen. This error is more likely to occur when the
state of one of the switches has recently changed.

12. Date Display.

The Service Diagnostics main menu displays the year 2000
instead of 2001.

CUSTOMER DATA PROGRAMMING

1. EHT Programming Attempt Failed with engine running.

When starting the engine during EHT programming, and
then trying to save, a message box will state that
"Programming attempt failed." Clicking on the "Retry"
and "Cancel" buttons on this box does not do anything.
Close the program manually and restart the computer.

2. View/Print Vehicle Parameters, Fleet Data Settings not
listed: Idle Shutdown via VIP parameter. GuardDog
information. Custom Parameters 1 and 2.

These parameters are only listed if enabled in "OEM
Data."

3. Set Time/Date at program start-up.

The Set Time/Date control appears at program startup
only if the ECU time and date are more than 24 hours
different than the PC time and date. Please ensure
that the VECU time and date are correct any time you
have the opportunity to do so.

4. VMAC II omissions in the printout of vehicle parameters used
for diagnostic and/or historical purposes.

The following parameters are not printed: Theft
Deterrence, Hand Throttle Settings header,
Vehicle/Maintenance Log Thresholds, Smart Fan Control,
Shutdown Sensor Options header.

5. Date Display.

Customer Data Programming main menu displays the year
2000 instead of 2001.

6. Exiting anomalies.

When exiting the program with the X button, the
following message occurs:
Remember to cycle the ignition key off, then on, and
remove any serial link power
control jumper or Prolink connector, to allow a power
cycle of the system to occur.
However, this message fails to occur when the Quit
button is selected.

DEALER PROGRAMMING

V-MAC Dealer Programming version 2.4 contains a known issue
concerning Flash Reprogramming. VDP 2.4 fails to successfully
reflash Engine ECUs on a small percentage of Service PCs when
using the Mack serial driver and Kent Moore J38351 serial link
adapter to communicate with V-MAC electronics. The solution
requires the purchase and use of an RP1210A-compliant data link
adapter. V-MAC Dealer Programming must also be configured through
it's 'Preferences' screen to use the RP1210A device driver once it
is installed. Please consult Mack Service in choosing which
RP1210A-compliant data link adapter to purchase.
